Colonials look to carry win streak on the road
WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball will leave the District for the first time in over two weeks when it travels to Johnson City to take on East Tennessee State University (ETSU). First pitch for Friday's opener will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, and a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday. Coverage of all three games will be available on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:
GW completed its first series sweep of the season with a 10-6 win over Niagara University. The Colonials were dominant throughout last weekend's series, outscoring the Purple Hawks 32-11, and outhitting the opponent, 43-27. In Sunday's finale, GW took major advantage of the long ball with five homers, the most homers for the Colonials in a single game in more than six seasons.
FABULOUS FIVE:
During the Colonials' five-game win streak, the team has been getting the job done on both offense and defense. In the batter's box, GW boasts a .358 team batting average and 1.005 OPS over its last five games, all while striking out only 26 times. Individually, four different Colonials are batting over .400 over the last five games, including Mike Ludowig, who has gone 11-for-16 (.688) with five RBIs during the stretch.
GW's results on the mound have been equally as impressive. The Colonials' staff enters Friday with a 2.80 team ERA and 42 strikeouts, while opponents are hitting just .257 against the Buff & Blue during this stretch.
ABOUT THE BUCS:
ETSU enters with a 13-5 record on the season, but the Buccaneers are coming off their first series loss last weekend after dropping back-to-back 10-inning games to Tennessee Tech. The Bucs possess one of the top offenses in the country, hitting .305 as a team to rank 36th in the NCAA. ETSU has five players with an average above .300, including Garrett Wallace, who leads the team with a .373 average and 22 RBIs.
