Colonials’ win streak halted at five after series-opening loss
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Despite pushing across five runs in the final four innings, GW baseball was unable to overcome an early offensive outburst by ETSU, falling 12-5 in Friday's series opener against the Buccaneers.
The Bucs jumped out early with three runs in the second inning and never surrendered the lead, adding five more runs in the fifth to push the advantage to 8-0.
GW eventually pushed home a pair of runs in the sixth thanks to a two-run home run by Steve DiTomaso, before knocking another long ball over the fence in the seventh courtesy of Noah Levin.
Despite GW closing the gap to five, ETSU was able to finish off the win in the eighth after a four-run inning that was capped off with a three-run bomb by Buccaneers' designated hitter Noah Webb
Offensively, Steve DiTomaso finished Friday 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. On the mound, Chris Kahler put together a strong effort in relief, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings, while striking out four.
The Buff & Blue will now gear up for tomorrow's second game against ETSU. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
