Colonials register season-high in runs and hits against Purple Eagles
GW's offense was clicking on all cylinders with eight different Colonials registering at least one hit, and nine different players recording an RBI. GW also recorded eight extra base hits, and reached base via the walk on eight different occasions. GW ended the afternoon with a season-high 19 hits, its most in a game since 2019 (2/22 vs. St. Peter's).
GW struck first against Niagara, putting up four runs in the fourth inning. However, the Buff & Blue's biggest offensive breakout came in the seventh and eighth. Up 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh, GW would send 21 batters to the plate over the final two innings, resulting in 13 runs on nine hits.
First-year Ty Acker led the way for the Buff & Blue Saturday, tallying four hits with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored. Cade Fergus continued his tear from the lead-off spot, registering two hits of his own along with three RBIs and a pair of runs. Joe Biancone went 3-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and a solo home run in the 5th that gave the Buff & Blue a five-run lead.
While the offense earned the headlines, GW's starting pitching was once again sturdy. Colonials' starter Connor Harris retired the first 16 batters he faced, and ended the afternoon throwing eight strong innings with four strikeouts.
Up next, GW will look to go for the Sunday sweep against Niagara. First pitch for the series finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from the Tuck.
