Colonials score double-digit runs for the second-straight game

ARLINGTON, Va. - Tucker Field was unable to contain GW baseball's offense on Sunday, as the Colonials went deep five times against Niagara in a 10-6 win to complete the series sweep.

First-year Drew Sotell led the Colonials in the finale, hitting homers in back-to-back at-bats. Sotell entered Sunday's series finale with just one hit in his GW career, but ended the day going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. In addition to Sotell, Derek Ripp, Steve DiTomaso, and Anthony Frechette all logged their first round-trippers of the year.

While the long ball was certainly Sunday's star, GW's offense was impressive in all facets. Four different Colonials recorded double-digit hits against the Purple Eagles, and nine different Colonials reached base. GW finished the afternoon with 12 hits, marking the fourth-straight game the Buff & Blue have had double-digit base knocks.

Individually, Cade Fergus continued his impressive run batting leadoff. The Colonials' center fielder reached base four more times Sunday, and scored three runs. Fergus is now 8-for-20 with 10 runs scored and a .500 on-base percentage while batting first this year.

On the mound, Justin Solt struck out six across five innings to earn his second win of the season, while Trevor Kuncl and Benny Wilson each threw scoreless innings in relief.

Winners of five straight overall, GW will have the beginning of this week off before heading to Eastern Tennessee State University for a three-game series this upcoming weekend.
