
Men's Tennis Opens Dual Season Saturday vs. BYU

Colonials and Cougars square off at Southeast Tennis & Learning Center
WASHINGTON -Â GW men's tennis begins its championship season on Saturday afternoon, welcoming in BYU to the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
RECAPPING THE FALL:Â The Buff & Blue had a successful fall season with four events, winning six flight titles in two trips to Navy and seeing three members of the squad advance to the round of 32 at the ITA Atlantic Regional. Sophomores Ben Barnett (9-4) posted the best singles record and was joined by classmate Ryan Navarro with nine wins. In doubles, Navarro and Ethan Jacobs posted an 11-2Â record to lead the way.
WELCOME BACK, WELL, EVERYONE:Â GW has the benefit of returning every member of last year's young team that earned the No. 5 seed in the A-10 tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals. The Colonials' nine-man roster is comprised of a pair of seniors - Dennis Afanasev and Jakub Behan - and seven sophomores under second-year head coach Rob Castille.
ABOUT THE COUGARS:Â BYU opened its season at No. 11 UCLA on Wednesday before making the cross-country trip to battle the Colonials on Saturday. The Cougars return eight members off last year's 17-6 team and feature an ITA Regional champion in Sean Hill, who defeated his teammate, Mateo Vereau Melendez, to win the singles crown.
