Colonials and Hoyas square off in Bethesda, Md. at 7 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW baseball will make the short trek to Bethesda, Md., on Wednesday for a crosstown showdown with Georgetown at 7 p.m. The Colonials will look to split the season series after falling to the Hoyas in late February.
OVER THE WEEKEND: The Colonials went toe-to-toe with Davidson, one of the top teams in the A-10, and came away with a 1-2 mark, nearly pulling out a series win with a furious comeback on Sunday. After dropping the first game, 3-0, GW bounced back in Saturday's doubleheader with a 6-5 win before falling by the same score on Sunday. Senior Dom D'Alessandro and redshirt freshman Derek Ripp collected five hits each during the three games.
BURNING RUBBER: GW received two excellent starts in Saturday's doubleheader with junior Elliott Raimo and first-year Rich Pfluger combining to allowed just three earned runs in 13.1 innings pitched (2.03 ERA). The Colonials pitching staff held the Wildcats to a .174 average and 14 runs in the three games, the best marks of any conference series so far this year.
BUILDING OFF LAST WEEK: Junior Jaret Edwards will get the ball on Wednesday, hoping to continue his string of solid performances since moving to the mid-week starter's role. Edwards tossed a dynamic 8.0 innings last week at William & Mary, holding the Tribe to a run on four hits with six strikeouts. Over his last two mid-week starts, Edwards holds a 2.25 ERA and has struck out nine batters in 12.0 innings.
ABOUT THE HOYAS: Georgetown is 13-26 on the year following a rain-shortened, two-game series sweep in non-conference play against Rider over the weekend. The Hoyas are hitting .260 as a team, headlined by Eddie McCabe's .315 clip and .785 OPS. On the hill, Georgetown has a 5.53 team ERA but averages 8.8 K/9, the third-best mark in the Big East.
SERIES HISTORY: Georgetown knocked off GW, 14-4, back on Feb. 27, pulling away late to earn the win at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. The Hoyas are the Buff & Blue's most common opponent with Wednesday serving as the 138th all-time meeting. GW owns a decisive 92-44-1 edge in the series.
