All nine Colonials post at least one hit and score one run
The offense shared the wealth with all nine Colonials registering at least one hit and scoring at least one run. Eight of the nine starters tallied an RBI. Senior Dom D'Alessandro led the way, going 4-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.
First-year Cade Fergus tacked on four hits as well out of the leadoff spot with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Classmate Noah Levin - in his first game back in the lineup since suffering a concussion earlier this month at George Mason - didn't miss a beat with three hits, including a double, plus three runs scored and two RBI.
Redshirt freshman Derek Ripp started the barrage with a two-run double in the second inning, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. In the process, he became the third Colonial this season with a hitting streak of at least 10 games. A sacrifice fly from junior Greg Anderberg later in the frame made it 3-0.
GW blew the game open with a seven-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from D'Alessandro, his eighth of the year, tying for the team lead. It was the only run-scoring hit of the frame.
With a 10-0 lead in tow, the Colonials kept coming with four more runs in the fifth inning. Levin provided the big knock in the inning with a two-run single, following an RBI hit from junior Steve Barmakian. A wild pitch added the extra point to put GW in front 14-0.
The top of the order came through in the sixth inning with three more scoring via RBIs from Fergus, junior Nate Fassnacht and sophomore Tyler Hix to make it 17-0.
Junior Jaret Edwards was the benefactor of all the run support, improving to 6-2 on the year with 5.1 scoreless frames. Edwards allowed just two hits and struck out four in the solid outing.
The Colonials remain on the road for a big three-game A-10 series this weekend, visiting VCU in Richmond, Va. The series starts on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
