Colonials and River Hawks finish series on Sunday at noon
ARLINGTON, Va. -Â GW baseball's potent offense was held in check in the middle game of its three-game set against UMass Lowell on Saturday, falling 12-1 at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Seven different Colonials recorded a hit on the day with first-year Cade Fergus extending his hitting streak to a team-best eight games and junior Nate Fassnacht going 1-for-3 with an RBI double to reach base for the 12th straight contest. Fassnacht plated junior Steve Barmakian, who was 1-for-5 on the day, with GW's lone tally of the game via a double in the last of the eighth.
The Colonials used seven pitchers on the afternoon, including the season debut of junior Elliott Raimo who tossed 0.2 innings of relief. Senior Dom D'Alessandro made his first career pitching appearance in the ninth inning.
Sophomore Kevin Sylvestri and first-year Chris Knight combined for 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three without allowing a hit. Redshirt senior starter Brady Renner lasted three innings, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. All five runs came with two outs in the third inning.
The Colonials and River Hawks wrap up the series with the rubber game on Sunday at noon. Admission is free.
