WASHINGTON -Â GW baseball continues its seven-game homestand with a single mid-week contest on Tuesday, welcoming UMBC to Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. with a live stream on ESPN+. Admission is free.
OVER THE WEEKEND:Â The Colonials dropped their opening A-10 series to Rhode Island, two games to one, falling in the rubber game on Sunday, 6-1. GW's nationally-ranked offense was held in check for the most part as the Buff & Blue suffered their first series setback since the opening weekend of the campaign.
MID-WEEK MASTERY:Â GW has won four straight mid-week games against local foes over the last two weeks by a combined score of 53-11. First-year Rich Pfluger, who is scheduled to get the ball on Tuesday, has been strong in two starts during that stretch, allowing only two runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Buff & Blue hurlers held Delaware State and Coppin State to a combined two runs on eight hits in two games last week.
ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS:Â UMBC is 6-11 on the year after dropping two of three to UMass Lowell over the weekend, winning the second game of a doubleheader, 8-5, on Sunday. The Retrievers are led by a pair of hitters over .300 with Terrence Pinkston and Christian Torres each posting .310 averages through 17 games.
SERIES HISTORY:Â GW has won 34 of the previous 53 installments in the all-time series as the two teams split the season series a year ago. UMBC was victorious on its home field, 7-5, while GW came away with a 5-2 triumph at the Tuck.
