TOWSON, Md. - Senior Bobby Campbell hit his team-leading sixth home run of the season but it was not enough to lead the George Washington baseball team past Towson in an 8-4 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
The Tigers built a 4-0 lead after plating a trio of runs in the first inning and a single run in the second before a RBI single by senior Andrew Selby in the top of the third cut the deficit to 4-1.
Towson answered in the bottom half of the third with a run to go back up, 5-1, before Campbell pulled the Colonials within two runs of the lead with a two-run home run in the top half of the sixth. The long ball scored senior Cody Bryant, who reached base on an throwing error to lead off the inning.
Towson scored one run in each of their final three at-bats to create separation and held on in the later innings. GW scored its final run on a RBI groundout by Campbell in the top half of the eighth inning.
Campbell led the Colonials with three RBIs at the plate while Selby (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and freshman Nate Fassnacht (3-for-4, 1 SB) added multi-hit games.
GW resumes its Atlantic 10 schedule this weekend when it welcomes second-place Rhode Island to Tucker Field for a three-game set. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
