Baseball Falls in Road Matchup at UMBC, 7-4

The George Washington baseball team dropped its road non-conference matchup with UMBC on Tuesday afternoon, 7-4. The Revolutionaries fall to 10-17 on the season.
GW jumped ahead in the top of the first inning courtesy of an error by UMBC's pitcher. With runners on the corners, the pitcher attempted to pick off Charlie Rogan at first, but the throw got by the first baseman, allowing Jack Kent to score from third base.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Retrievers posted two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Buff & Blue jumped back ahead in the fourth after Travis Peitz tallied his first career home run. Peitz's three-run blast to left-center field allowed Connor Jones and Cristino Tufano to touch home plate, giving the Revolutionaries a 4-2.
From there, it was all UMBC as the Retrievers posted one run in the fifth and sixth innings, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to secure the victory.
Liam Thyen earned the start for GW in what was a bullpen game. Thyen tossed two scoreless innings, striking out one batter. Jonas Aponick, Drew Oppenheim and Drew Harris each had scoreless appearances out of the GW pen as well. The loss was charged to Henry Knighton, dropping him to 0-1 this season.
GW returns to action Thursday, opening a three-game series at St. Bonaventure. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
