The George Washington baseball team dropped the middle game of its weekend series at Saint Joseph's on Saturday, falling to the Hawks, 6-5. GW drops to 8-13 on the season and 2-3 in Atlantic 10 matchups.
After SJU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first, GW bounced back with three runs of its own to snag the early advantage. Conlon Walker got the score started with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Brodie Freker from third. Michael Bravette knotted the game up at two with an RBI single to right, scoring Cristino Tufano. Robbie Lavey gave GW its first lead of the afternoon on an RBI groundout to second base, plating Nick Mullen.
Both teams went quiet in the third before Saint Joseph's tied the game up once again on a solo home run.
GW starter Andrew Cutler was ultimately pulled following the fifth inning, finishing with three strikeouts and three earned runs in the no-decision.
The Buff & Blue recaptured a 4-3 lead in the sixth on another sacrifice fly from Walker, but the Hawks wiped the advantage away in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch from GW reliever Colin Lebel.
The game's final three runs came in the seventh, with GW taking a 5-4 lead in the top of the inning. Charlie Rogan tallied his first RBI of the series with a sac fly to center field, scoring Bravette from third base. SJU took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI single to left center, a lead they would keep the rest of the way.
Lebel was charged with the loss after tossing three innings in relief. He struck out two batters, and only one run was earned on his watch. Lebel is now 0-1 on the season.
The Revolutionaries look to salvage a win in the series finale tomorrow, with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
