Baseball Hits the Road for Games at JMU, Saint Joseph’s

Following an 11-game homestand over a three-week stretch, the George Washington baseball team hits the road for matchups at James Madison and Saint Joseph's. The Revolutionaries will battle JMU on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. before opening a weekend series with the Hawks starting on Friday (3:00 p.m.) and extending into Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.). Wednesday, Friday and Sunday's games will all be carried live on ESPN+.
GW is coming off a solid showing against defending Atlantic 10 champions Rhode Island, taking two of three matchups against the Rams to open conference play. The Buff & Blue were led by Conlon Walker, who hit a scorching .538 from the plate last week, driving in three RBI and tallying four doubles. Matt Bruno was stellar on the mound in two appearances, tossing 5.0 combined innings of scoreless work, striking out four and allowing just two hits.
James Madison enters the week 10-8 overall, coming off a three-game sweep against Georgia Southern to open Sun Belt Conference action last weekend. The Dukes opened 2026 with a trip to Tallahassee to take on top-25 Florida State and have also played midweek matchups with A-10 schools Richmond and George Mason, dropping both of those contests.

JMU's offense is led by Ike Schmidly, who's hitting .393 from the plate this season. Schmidly has 24 total hits, including six doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI. Saint Joseph's welcomes GW to Hawk Hill this weekend, coming off a three-game sweep of Richmond to open A-10 play. The Hawks hold an 8-9 overall record this year, having won five of their last seven contests after starting the season 3-7. Prior to hosting GW, Saint Joe's will travel to Delaware on Wednesday, battling the Blue Hens at 4:00 p.m.
SJU is led by longtime Head Coach Fritz Hamburg, who's in his 18th season with the program. Hamburg tallied his 400th career victory on Sunday, currently holding a 400-436-2 overall record in nearly two decades on Hawk Hill. Saint Joseph's offense is led by Richard Beggy, who's slashing .434 from the plate in 53 at-bats. Beggy has 23 total hits, including two doubles, one home run and 19 RBI. Luke Parise, Cole Fehrman and Duke McCarron have been SJU's weekend rotation on the mound through the first five weeks of the season. Parise leads the trio with a 2-1 record and a 4.94 ERA thus far.
