Baseball Comes Up Short at Saint Joseph’s
3/20/2026 6:02:00 PM | Baseball
Despite a late surge, the George Washington baseball team came up short in the first of a three-game series at Saint Joseph's this weekend. The host Hawks secured a 7-4 win behind early offense to take the opener. The Revolutionaries move to 8-12 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic 10 play this season.
The Hawks used a pair of GW errors in the first inning to plate three runs and get the early advantage. After scoreless second and third frames, Saint Joe's put up another three-spot in the fourth, doubling its advantage to 6-0.
The Buff & Blue tallied their first run in the fifth on an RBI single to center field from Robbie Lavey, scoring Connor Jones.
The next two innings were quiet, with SJU maintaining its five-run lead. In the top of the eighth, GW started its comeback bid, scoring twice to cut the deficit to three. Charlie Walsh drove in the GW Revs' first run on an RBI single to right field, while Conlon Walker doubled to left field, bringing home the second of the inning.
After a Saint Joe's solo home run made it 7-3 entering the ninth, the Revolutionaries plated another via an error by the Hawks' shortstop. Despite having multiple runners on and only one out, GW couldn't cut into the deficit any further.
Max Haug tossed five innings in the loss, allowing six runs, with only three of them earned. He tallied six strikeouts in 24 batters faced. Jasper Nadel tossed two hitless innings in relief, while Gavin Miller allowed one run in one inning of work.
GW looks to even the series tomorrow, with first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. in Philly. Follow live stats of the matchup on GWsports.com.
