Bats Go Quiet in Baseball’s Loss to Towson

Despite five runs in the first inning, the George Washington baseball team couldn't secure a midweek win vs. Towson on Wednesday at The Tuck. The Tigers got the best of GW, 7-6, to drop the Revolutionaries to 6-9 on the season.
GW's first-inning offense was kick-started by Robbie Lavey, who drove in the game's first run via an RBI single up the middle, scoring Jack Kent. Charlie Walsh picked up an RBI three batters later via a bases-loaded walk to double GW's lead. Conlon Walker made it 4-0 with a two-RBI double down the right field line, scoring Brodie Freker and Charlie Rogan. Nick Mullen rounded out the five-run inning with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Walsh from third.
On a bullpen day for the GW pitching staff, Liam Thyen earned his first collegiate start. The first-year tossed one inning, striking out two batters and allowing one hit. In total, seven different pitchers entered the game for the Revolutionaries, with Jonas Aponick, Reese Crochet, Drew Harris and Matt Bruno each having scoreless appearances along with Thyen.
Towson's runs came in groups, with the Tigers scoring two in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. GW tried to make things interesting in the eighth, scoring a run via a Mullen double to right-center, but the Buff & Blue couldn't knot the game up with runners in scoring position both in the eighth and ninth innings.
Brad Marks was charged with the loss after allowing three earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Austin Perando picked up the win for Towson, moving him to 2-0 this season. Matt Lynch earned his first save of 2026.
GW concludes its 11-game homestand this weekend, opening A-10 play against Rhode Island with a three-game series starting on Friday. Friday's game will be available to stream live on ESPN+, while Sunday's series finale will mark the first jersey retirement in program history. Hank Bunnell's No. 18 will forever be enshrined at Tucker Field during a pregame ceremony, honoring the life and legacy of one of the most decorated members of the GW baseball program.
