ARLINGTON – The George Washington baseball team suffered a 5-2 loss to VCU in Sunday's series finale at Tucker Field. The Revolutionaries drop to 17-14 this season and an even 6-6 in A-10 play.
VCU got on the scoreboard first, posting a run in the second off GW's starter, Graham Jeffries. One inning later in the third, the Rams added to their lead, putting up three more runs to chase Jeffries and take a 4-0 lead.
It took GW's offense 2.2 innings to find its first hit, a double down the right field line from Conlon Walker, who finished with two of the GW Revs' four hits in the game. The Buff & Blue were unable to plate Walker, one of seven runners left on base in the game.
GW scratched across its two runs in the fourth inning. Charlie Rogan skied a ball to deep center field that led VCU's defender into the wall, where he dropped the ball. Rogan, along with Ellis Schwartz, who was on base at the time of the hit, both managed to score before the Rams could get the ball back in, resulting in GW's first inside-the-park home run of the season and cutting VCU's lead down to 4-2.
The Rams tacked on one more run in the eighth to take a 5-2 lead, and GW couldn't answer back, losing the team's second conference series of 2025.
Gavin Miller (2.2 innings), Aidan Carey (1.0 innings) and Max Haug (2.0 innings) all kept clean sheets in their appearances. Miller punched out two batters, while Carey tallied one K.
The Buff & Blue return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Baltimore to face UMBC at 6:00 p.m. Follow GWsports.com for live stats and updates from the game.
