SALISBURY, Md. – The George Washington baseball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 10-4, on Tuesday afternoon to win its fourth-straight game. The Revolutionaries improve to 22-18 on the year ahead of this weekend's road series at UMass.
The bats were hot early for GW, as the Revolutionaries posted two runs in the first inning and six across the first three frames to take the early advantage. Ellis Schwartz plated the game's first run off a fielding error from UMES' pitcher, then Ty Acker worked a bases-loaded walk for the game's first RBI.
After the Hawks tallied one run in the second, GW came alive in the third with four more runs to take a 6-1 lead. Highlighting the inning was Charlie Walsh, who brought home three runs on a bases-clearing triple. Tyler Jones was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push Robbie Lavey across from third.
In the fifth, Jones notched his second RBI of the day via a sacrifice fly to center field. One inning later, Robbie Lavey put GW ahead 9-1 with a two-run homer to left-center field. Scoring on the long ball was Tim Nicholson, who made his first start of the season for GW behind the plate. Charlie Rogan tallied GW's 10th and final run of the day in the seventh when he ripped an RBI double into left field to score Walsh from second base.
UMES attempted to mount a comeback with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, but it wasn't nearly enough as GW's bullpen locked up the win.
Jonas Aponick earned the start for the GW Revs and he tossed three innings with two strikeouts. Tyler Blankenship was credited with the win after throwing two innings in relief with three strikeouts. Ayden Alexander, Aidan Carey and Matt Bruno each made scoreless relief appearances for GW.
The Revolutionaries return to action on Friday for the opener of a three-game series at UMass at 3:00 p.m. The series extends into Saturday (1:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.), with all three games carried on ESPN+.
