WASHINGTON – After a three-game sweep of Richmond over the weekend, the George Washington baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Maryland-Eastern Shore for a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Hawks. GW will then open a three-game set with UMass on Friday, marking the final time the two programs will meet as conference opponents. The series opener is set for 3:00 p.m., with live coverage available on ESPN+.
The Revolutionaries (9-9 in conference play) enter the week a game behind Dayton and Fordham in the conference standings, who occupy the final two spots in the projected Atlantic 10 Championship field with a 10-8 record. Despite currently being outside of the playoff picture, GW remains just four games back from Rhode Island, which is currently the top overall seed at 13-5. George Mason and Saint Joseph's are tied for second place at 12-6, while Saint Louis and Davidson are deadlocked in fourth at 11-7.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
UMES welcomes GW to Princess Anne with a 4-31 overall record, currently holding a 15-game losing streak. Since playing GW on March 11 at Tucker Field, the Hawks have won just one game, going 1-18 in that stretch. UMES is led by second-year Head Coach Danny Acosta, who has led the team to four wins this season after going winless in his first season at the helm.
Jonathan Gonzalez Perez leads the Hawks' offense with a .324 batting average and 36 hits. He's also tallied 20 RBI, seven doubles and 12 runs scored. Diego Aponte leads the club with 23 RBI, while Ansel Carson is the team leader with 32 runs scored. UMES' season stats can be found here.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
UMass, which will depart the Atlantic 10 following the academic year for the Mid-American Conference, will travel to UConn on Tuesday before hosting the Revolutionaries this weekend. The Minutemen are 11-22-1 this season and 5-13 in conference play after losing two of three to George Mason last weekend. A rare occurrence around the country, UMass and Quinnipiac played to a 7-7 tie earlier this season after the game was halted in extra innings due to darkness. UMass is the only team in the A-10 to hold a tie in its record this season.
Offensively, the Minutemen are led by Matt Travisano, who holds a .284 batting average, which is the best on the team. Carter Hanson is just behind with a .273 line at the plate but leads the team in total hits with 35, runs scored (28) and doubles (eight). Jack Beverly is the team leader with seven home runs, while also boasting a .487 on-base percentage with 26 walks on the year.
Callen Powers, the reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week, is 3-1 this season with nine starts. He's tossed 51.0 total innings, registering 37 strikeouts and yielding 20 earned runs. He tossed his first complete game of the season last Saturday against George Mason, limiting the Patriots' potent offense to just one run. Robbie O'Connor has also started nine games for UMass and holds a 2-5 record with 45.2 total innings and 29 punchouts. UMass' complete 2025 stats can be found here.
