ARLINGTON, Va. – The George Washington baseball team fell in its series finale to Fairfield on Sunday afternoon, 6-4. The Revolutionaries fall to 7-7 overall with Atlantic 10 play beginning next week.
The GW Revs jumped out in front in the first when Robbie Lavey drove home Charlie Rogan via an RBI single to left field. Ellis Schwartz was thrown out on the play at third base, negating a second GW run that would've scored right behind Rogan.
Fairfield didn't stay behind for long, launching a solo home run in the second to knot the game at one apiece. Neither team scored again until the sixth, when the Stags jumped ahead 2-1 on an RBI double to left center.
The Revolutionaries answered with two runs of their own in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. Ty Acker and Tyler Jones both recorded sacrifice flies, while Conlon Walker drove in a run on a fielding error by the second baseman.
Fairfield recaptured the lead in the eighth and never looked back, posting four runs and securing the 6-4 win. Declan Wywoda was charged with the loss, dropping him to 1-2 on the season. Shugy Klein earned the start for GW, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing one earned run.
GW returns to action on Tuesday, hosting UMES at 3:00 p.m. Live coverage will be carried on ESPN+.
