The Hawks got on the scoreboard first with the game's first run in the top of the second inning. GW didn't trail for long, posting nine runs in the home half of the inning to open up an eight-run advantage. The inning was aided by a two-out error from UMES' infield that allowed two runs to score on the play and resulted in GW plating three more later in the frame.
After scoring one in the fifth, the Revolutionaries put up another crooked number in the sixth inning, this time a five-spot to open up a 15-1 advantage. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI double to left center from Cristino Tufano, boosting him to a two-hit, three-RBI day at the plate.
GW finished its scoring outburst in the seventh with three more runs to give the team 18. Spencer Yu and Adham Sahebzadah both tallied hits late in the contest, the first of their collegiate careers. In total, GW posted 18 hits, with eight different players getting in on the action. Robbie Lavey led the way with four, while Sam Gates, Greg Marmo and Ty Acker each tallied three.
On the mound, Cade Davis collected his second win of the season, tossing two scoreless innings with only one hit allowed. Declan Wywoda bounced back with an impressive showing, keeping the Hawks hitless in two innings of work. Nathan Murphy and Aidan Carey combined for one inning of work, with Murphy making his collegiate debut.
GW returns to action tomorrow, traveling to Towson for a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Tigers. Live coverage will be available on FloSports. The GW Revs return to Tucker Field this weekend for a three-game series against Fordham starting on Friday.
