Baseball Opens A-10 Play During Busy Week at The Tuck

WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team is scheduled to play five games over a six-day span that includes opening Atlantic 10 play on Friday vs. Fordham. The GW Revs host UMES on Tuesday, travel to Towson on Wednesday, then host the Rams for a three-game set that extends into Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday's game will be available on ESPN+, while Wednesday's contest will be carried on FloSports. No live stream will be available for this weekend's series.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
UMES, who snapped a 55-game losing streak earlier this season, holds a 3-12 overall record after securing its first series win of the season last weekend against Delaware State. The Hawks are led by skipper Danny Acosta, who took over the program prior to the 2024 season. After going 0-48 in his first season, Acosta earned his first career victory earlier this season against Towson.
Diego Aponte leads the Hawks' offense with a .389 batting average on 21 hits. The Puerto Rico native has 19 RBI thus far through 15 games and has belted two home runs. Aponte also leads the team with an on-base percentage of .468 and is second with a .593 slugging percentage. SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson enters the week 4-11 after going 0-3 last weekend against three different opponents. The Tigers fell, 6-4, to Longwood on Friday, dropped Saturday's game against Georgetown, 3-2, then lost to George Mason, 7-5, on Sunday. Towson's last win came on March 6, a 7-6 win over Holy Cross after being swept by the Crusaders the weekend prior. Prior to hosting GW on Wednesday, Towson will face West Virginia in Morgantown on Tuesday afternoon. Towson is led by head coach Matt Tyner, who's in his seventh season with the program. He's amassed a 100-243 record with the Tigers and holds a 160-289 overall record, including two seasons with Bellarmine as well.
Jordan Peyton leads the Tigers' offense with a .333 batting average. He leads the team with 19 hits, four doubles and is second with nine RBI. Before arriving in Arlington for this weekend's series, Fordham will host Navy on Wednesday for a mid-week matchup. The Rams have six losses to "Power 4" opponents this season, including three against nationally ranked NC State to open the season. Kevin Leighton is in his 14th season as head coach of Fordham, totaling an overall record of 311-366-1 with the Rams. Leighton previously spent six seasons with Manhattan before traveling across the Bronx to Fordham. He amassed a 200-119-1 record with the Jaspers.
Fordham's bats are led by Andrew Kanellis, who's hitting .333 with 17 hits and nine RBI. Daniel Bucciero is also slashing .333 with 17 hits this season, while also leading the team with nine walks and four doubles. Mike Rabayda and Aidan Dowd have both earned starts in all four weekend series for Fordham, combining for a 2-5 record.
