Baseball Falls in Game Two vs. Fairfield

Both teams' bats came out hot, with Fairfield putting up two runs in the first and GW posting four. The inning was highlighted by first-year Tyler Jones, who broke the 2-2 tie with a two-run home run to right center. In a limited sample size this season, Jones has been solid for GW, posting a .500 batting average (10-for-20), nine RBI and five runs scored over five starts.
GW added to its lead in the third, putting up two more runs to take a 6-2 lead. Jones drove in the first with a single to right field, while Ty Acker brought home the second on a fielder's choice that scored Jude Clough.
The middle three innings were all Fairfield as the Stags scored eight runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to reclaim an 11-6 lead. GW got one back in the bottom half of the sixth, but the Stags got it back in the eighth to make the score 12-7.
GW made a push in the eighth, scoring three runs of their own, but GW couldn't capitalize further with the bases loaded and only one out. Neither team tallied a run in the ninth to secure the win for Fairfield.
Teddy Brennan was charged with the loss, dropping him to 0-2 this season. Cade Davis and Matt Bruno both had solid outings in relief for GW. Davis tossed 2.1 innings, allowing one earned run, while Bruno pitched three innings with one run and three K's.
Sam Gates finished with a three-hit day, tallying two runs scored and an RBI. Conlon Walker, Ellis Schwartz and Jones all recorded two hits apiece, with Jones leading the way with three RBI. Cristino Tufano finished 1-for-3 with two RBI as well.
GW looks to avoid the sweep tomorrow, hosting Fairfield for the series finale at noon.
