Baseball Drops Series-Opener vs. Fairfield

ARLINGTON, Va. – The George Washington baseball team dropped its series opener with Fairfield on Friday afternoon, 12-1.
The Revolutionaries fell into an early hole, giving up two runs in the second and six in the third to trail 8-0. The Stags posted nine hits across the second and third frames and saw the first seven batters reach base safely in the third before recording an out.
The Stags put up two more runs in the sixth and seventh before GW recorded its first hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh. The Revolutionaries strung together three hits in the inning to plate the team's lone run of the contest. Ty Acker singled through the right side, scoring Ellis Schwartz from third base.
Michael Foltz Jr. was charged with the loss, his second of the season. Ben Alekson recorded his second win for Fairfield after tossing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. Max Haug, Gavin Miller, Drew Harris, Drew Oppenheim and Aidan Carey all made relief appearances for GW in the loss.
The Buff & Blue return to Tucker Field for the middle game of the weekend series. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
