SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
Mount St. Mary's enters the week 8-10 overall after dropping a three-game series to Iona over the weekend. Sitting at 2-4 in MAAC play, the Mountaineers dropped two of three to Sacred Heart two weeks ago to begin conference action. Earlier this season, The Mount hosted Saint Joseph's, beating the Hawks twice in a three-game set, the only three games its played against an A-10 school this year.
In his fourth season with the program, Frank Leoni serves as head coach of Mount St. Mary's. With over 30 years of head coaching experience, Leoni has accumulated over 650 career wins and holds a record of 69-105-1 with the Mountaineers. His resume also includes stops at Rhode Island (1992-05), William & Mary (2005-12) and Marymount (2013-21).
Statistically, The Mount is led by Ty Fredo, who's batting .378 on the season. He leads the team with 28 hits, including four doubles and two home runs, to go along with 18 RBI and a slugging percentage of .514. Sam Grube sits at a .343 average with 30 total bases and 14 RBI, while Nick Fleming has a stellar .571 on-base percentage.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Rhode Island enters the second week of conference play 11-8 overall after sweeping defending champion VCU last weekend. Rhody outscored VCU by a combined total of 25-16, including a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. The Rams also secured a 12-11 win over 11th-ranked Oregon earlier this season and a three-game sweep against Eastern Kentucky. GW and Rhode Island are deadlocked through 60 games played all time. The GW Revs took two-of-three against the Rams last year, drawing the series even at 30-30.
Raph Cerrato is in his 11th season with Rhode Island and 16th as a head coach overall. With the Rams, he's accumulated a 245-261-2 overall record and has 367 career wins, including five years as New Haven's skipper. He's led Rhody to two 30-win seasons and is currently on pace for his third in 2025.
Anthony DePino leads the team with a .444 batting average in 72 at-bats. He's blasted nine home runs, which currently leads the A-10, while also sitting second in on-base percentage at .560. His OPS is tops in the conference at 1.477, while his slugging percentage is second at .917, only behind Michael Elko of Richmond (.929). Reece Moroney is slashing .400 with 13 RBI and 23 runs scored, while Eric Genther sits at .349 with four homers.
