GW got the party started in the first, putting up seven runs in the home half of the inning. The GW Revs put a crooked number on the board in six of the eight innings the team came up to bat, with the first being the most productive frame of the evening. The Buff & Blue followed it up with four more runs in the second, opening up an 11-0 lead on the Black Bears.
Maine cut into the GW advantage in the third, fourth and fifth, notching six of the team's seven runs in that stretch. However, their hopes of a comeback were short-lived as GW put up five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to answer and bring the score to 16-6.
GW's offense continued to roll, recording three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and five in the eighth, putting the finishing touches on the 26-run performance. Maine tacked on one more run in the ninth before GW recorded the final out.
First-year Tyler Jones led GW's offense with four hits on the day to go along with three runs and two RBI. Charlie Walsh and Cristino Tufano each recorded three hits apiece to go along with seven combined runs and six combined RBI. Ty Acker finished 2-for-5 from the plate with three RBI and two runs scored, while Ellis Schwartz finished with a hit and two RBI.
On the mound, Teddy Brennan earned his third start of the season, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing five earned runs. Brennan struck out a season-high 10 batters in 98 pitches. First-year Declan Wywoda earned the win, pitching 3.0 innings in relief with one run allowed. Wywoda earns his first collegiate win after recording the first save of his career earlier this week against Georgetown.
The Revolutionaries look to break the brooms out tomorrow, hosting Maine for the series finale. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m., one hour later than the original noon start time due to frigid temperature forecasted for the DMV region. Tomorrow's contest will be carried live on ESPN+.
