WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team enters the weekend looking for its first win of the 2025 season. The Revolutionaries welcome Holy Cross to The Tuck for a three-game series starting on Saturday.
Holy Cross traveled south to Auburn for a three-game opening series against the Tigers and enters the new week with a 1-2 overall record. The Crusaders captured a 4-2 win over the 22nd-ranked Tigers on Saturday but dropped games on Friday and Sunday to lose the series. Holy Cross is led by Ed Kahovec, who's in his sixth season with the program. The Crusaders hold a 75-131 record under Kahovec's guidance dating back to his first season in 2020.
Holy Cross' offense was led by Gianni Royer, who hit .400 in his first 10 at-bats. Royer tallied one homer, two RBI and scored three runs. CJ Egrie went .300 on the weekend, notching two doubles and a triple, accounting for all seven of his bases. Derek Volz was credited with the team's win on Saturday after pitching 3.1 innings in relief. Volz now has a 2.70 ERA and four strikeouts.
For the Buff & Blue, Jude Clough was the team's top dog offensively. Clough recorded six hits in nine at-bats, equating to a .667 average. He scored five runs and tallied one double as well. The sophomore catcher drew two walks and was hit by a pitch, giving him a .750 on-base percentage. Cristino Tufano was also solid for GW at USC, finishing with a .417 batting average with five hits and two RBI.
GW's weekend series with the Crusaders will begin on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. After schedule adjustments earlier this week, the teams will now play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A live stream will not be available for this weekend's series, but fans are encouraged to follow live stats for all games at GWsports.com.
