IRVINE, Calif. – The George Washington baseball team fell in its opening day matchup to the University of Southern California, 15-2, on Friday night. The Revolutionaries return for the middle game of their three-game stint on the West Coast tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
After falling behind early, the GW Revs plated their first run of the contest in the third inning when junior Greg Marmo advanced home via a wild pitch. Later in the contest, sophomore Nick Mullen picked up right where he left off as a standout rookie, belting a solo homer to left field, scoring GW's final run of the evening.
The Revolutionaries' offense tallied five hits in the contest, two of which came from sophomore Crisitno Tufano, who made his second career start. The sophomore trio of Mullen, Robbie Lavey and Jude Clough made up the remaining three hits for GW's offense.
Michael Foltz Jr. was charged with the loss, giving up four earned runs in the first two-thirds of an inning. Junior Max Haug tossed 2.1 frames in relief, allowing two earned runs and striking out three batters. Sophomore Drew Oppenheim tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one baserunner in his first appearance of 2025.
