WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team looks to avenge its early-season loss with a second matchup against Delaware on Tuesday. Gametime is set for 6:30 p.m. in Newark, with live coverage available on FloSports.
LAST TIME OUT
GW enters the week 24-19 overall and 7-8 in A-10 action after dropping two of three games to Saint Louis over the weekend. The Billikens, who now sit in second in the conference standings with a record of 10-5, defeated GW on Friday and Sunday to win the series. On Saturday, the Revolutionaries took advantage of stellar pitching out of the bullpen to secure the 5-3 win. Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Buff & Blue responded with one run in the third and three in the fourth to capture a 4-2 lead. Brandon Siegenthaler, who entered the game at the start of the second inning, didn't allow a run until the seventh, tossing 5.2 frames with four strikeouts. After GW got the run back in the bottom of the seventh, Andrew Cutler nailed down the win with scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth. The victory gave Siegenthaler his fourth of the year, while Cutler earned his second save.
RITCHIE NEARS NEW MILESTONE
After becoming the Buff & Blue's all-time winningest head coach earlier this season, Gregg Ritchie nears another milestone in his 12th season at the helm of the program. Ritchie needs just four more victories to eclipse 300 for his career. With GW slated to play four games this week, Ritchie could reach the mark as soon as Sunday at VCU if the Buff & Blue go undefeated across the next six days. With 12 games left in the regular season, Ritchie has guided the program to 24 wins this season, already surpassing last year's win total of 21. The program hasn't won 24 or more games since 2021 when the Buff & Blue finished 26-18. If Ritchie and the GW Revs were to hit 30 wins this season, it would be the first time since 2019. GW finished with a 30-24 record that year.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
Delaware is set to host GW on Tuesday after sweeping Towson last weekend in conference action. The Blue Hens are 23-19 overall this season, including a victory over GW on March 19 at Tucker Field. Delaware is led by Head Coach Greg Mamula, who's in his second season with the program after spending three years with D-II West Chester from 2007-2009. Mamula has a 53-48 record with the Blue Hens and guided the team to a 30-29 mark last season.
Offensively, Brett Lesher leads the way for Delaware with a .317 batting average and a team-best 45 hits. Lesher has 38 RBI on the season and holds a slugging percentage of .500. He has 14 extra-base hits, including eight doubles and six home runs. Along with Lesher, Bryce Greenly has been a mainstay in Delaware's lineup with a .306 average and 44 hits. He's scored a team-high 40 runs on the year and has also posted six home runs in 2024. His slugging percentage sits at .514 and his on-base percentage is .407 after drawing 23 walks. As a team, Delaware has hit 83 home runs in 42 games. Aaron Graeber, Eric Ludman and Joey Loynd each have 11 this season, while Andrew Amato and Tyler Leach have both posted nine.
On the mound, Anthony Gubitosi boasts the best ERA on the staff at 3.22. Gubitosi has appeared in 14 games, all in relief, and leads the team with four saves. He's tossed a total of 22.1 innings and only allowed eight earned runs on the year. He holds opposing batters to a .182 average and has 31 strikeouts. Doug Mourse leads the team in starts this season, earning the nod on 11 separate occasions. Mourse has tossed 52 total innings and is second on the team in strikeouts with 39. He has a record of 3-1 on the season and has allowed 34 earned runs.
