NEWARK, Del. – The George Washington baseball team dropped its midweek clash with Delaware on Tuesday evening, 8-4. The Revolutionaries fall to 24-20 on the season with 11 games left to play.

After both teams put up goose eggs in the first, Delaware got the scoring started with three runs in the second inning. All three runs came off Graham Jeffries, GW's starter in the contest, who was making his first appearance since April 20 against Rhode Island. Despite the rocky second inning, Jeffries settled in to keep Delaware scoreless in the third inning before the Buff & Blue turned to the pen in the fourth.

Including Jeffries, GW used six pitchers in total during the midweek contest. Reese Crochet was responsible for the scoreless fourth inning, while Max Haug kept Delaware off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth. The Blue Hens added to their lead in the fifth inning, plating four more runs to extend the advantage to 7-0. In the sixth, GW got its first run of the game courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Tim Nicholson, which scored Brett Young from third base. The momentum would be short lived, however, as Delaware quickly got the run back later in the inning.

Not going away without a fight, GW tallied a run in each of the next three innings. In the seventh, Nick Mullen recorded a run on a passed ball, while Bryan Belo ripped a home run to left-center in the eighth for GW. Conlon Walker tallied an RBI single up the middle for the GW Revs in the ninth, but the momentum wasn't enough to carry GW to the comeback. Jeffries was charged with the loss for GW, dropping him to 4-2 on the season. Christian Colmery earned the win for the Blue Hens, moving to 3-0 on the year.

GW returns to the diamond on Friday, opening a weekend series at VCU. Friday's game is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will be carried on ESPN+.
