Baseball Hosts William & Mary in Mid-Week Action

WASHINGTON – Riding a three-game winning streak following a sweep of St. Bonaventure over the weekend, the George Washington baseball team welcomes William & Mary to Tucker Field on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup. Live coverage of the mid-week clash will be available on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
GW kickstarted the 2024 Atlantic 10 slate with three-straight W's over St. Bonaventure last weekend. The Revolutionaries, who have now defeated the Bonnies in 13 straight meetings, capped off the series sweep with a 7-0 shutout on Sunday. Graham Jeffries earned the win in the series finale, moving him to a perfect 4-0 on the season, after tossing 7.0 scoreless innings and striking out six. He only allowed six baserunners in the game, another dominant effort for the grad student. In Saturday's 6-3 win over the Bonnies, Jarrett Korson earned the victory following a solid showing on the bump. Korson tossed 5.0 innings, striking out four batters and allowing three earned runs. The win was Korson's first of the year, moving him to 1-1. In a high-scoring affair on Friday, GW picked up a 12-8 series-opening win behind 6.2 innings from Michael Foltz. Foltz finished with five strikeouts on the day and allowed five earned runs en route to his fourth win of the season. Foltz now holds a record of 4-1 in 2024. Offensively, Sam Gates led the way for GW in all three games. He hit a combined 7-for-12 (.583) across the three contests, racking in four RBI and five runs scored for GW.
DITOMASO CLIMBING THE RANKS
Another shining star for GW over the weekend was Steve DiTomaso, who totaled six hits against the Bonnies. DiTomaso now has 260 hits in his career, putting him just five away from tying Ryan Roberson '05 for seventh in program history. DiTomaso has 43 base knocks this season, including eight extra-base hits. DiTomaso's batting average sits at .344 this season, second-best on the team behind Ellis Schwartz, who is hitting .375. He's also second on the team in RBI with 23 and his 25 runs scored are tops on the squad.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
William & Mary enters the week 20-8 overall and 4-2 in the CAA following a 6-0 win at Delaware on Sunday afternoon. The win secured the team's second-straight conference series win, taking two out of three contests in both matchups. Prior to battling GW on Wednesday, the Tribe will first host fellow A-10 school VCU for a Tuesday afternoon showdown in Williamsburg, Va. William & Mary is led by third-year head coach Mike McRae who took over the program prior to the 2022 season. Before arriving at William & Mary, McRae served as Canisius' skipper for 13 seasons from 2005-17, and three seasons at Niagara from 2002-04. McRae has a 548-478 career record in 19 years of coaching and has led the Tribe to a 78-56 mark during his time in Williamsburg.
On the field, the Tribe are led by Joe Delossantos who's batting .376 on the season. Delossantos has 38 hits on the year including seven home runs. He boasts a slugging percentage of .644 and an on-base percentage of .504. He's perfect on the bases, stealing a team-best 14 bags in 14 attempts, while also working 25 walks and bringing home 31 RBI. Ben Parker is also off to a hot start this season, hitting .371 from the plate with 39 hits and 20 RBI. Parker has a team-high seven doubles this year and he also leads the team with nine home runs as well.
On the mound, William & Mary's top starter is Nate Knowles who's made 10 starts and holds an ERA of 1.57. Knowles has pitched 34.1 innings and allowed six earned runs. He has a team-high 55 strikeouts and holds opposing batters to a .174 average. Out of the bullpen, Owen Pierce has been the team's go-to, appearing in nine contests and pitching 21.1 innings. He has 25 punch-outs and holds batters to a .175 average.
