WASHINGTON – Riding a four-game win streak and coming on the heels of a series sweep against Canisius, the George Washington baseball team welcomes Towson to Tucker Field for a 3:00 p.m. meeting on Wednesday afternoon. The contest will be carried live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
GW completed a three-game sweep over Canisius with a dominant 9-1 win on Sunday. The Revolutionaries scored at least one run in the first four innings of the contest to jump out early and never looked back. GW was aided by a solid start from Graham Jeffries, who earned his third win of the season moving him to 3-0, after tossing five innings and only allowing one earned run. Jeffries has strung together two solid starts in a row going back to last Sunday at Presbyterian, combining for 11 total innings, two hits allowed and one earned run. He also struck out three Canisius batters on Sunday as well. Offensively, GW was paced by Sam Gates who racked up four hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Steve DiTomaso and Tim Nicholson both registered three hits each. Nicholson chipped in two RBI and two runs scored, while DiTomaso added an RBI and a run. Brett Young and Charlie Rogan both added two hits apiece, while Ellis Schwartz finished his day with one hit.
DITOMASO "HITS" MILESTONE
On Sunday against Canisius, DiTomaso ripped an RBI single through the left side of the infield in the second inning to become just the ninth player in GW baseball history to collect 250 career hits. DiTomaso has played in 182 games during his five-year career spanning back to 2020. As it sits, DiTomaso also ranks 15th in career runs scored with 145 and he sits fifth all-time with 11 triples. He needs to appear in just 19 more games to crack the top 25 in program history for games played, and if he were to appear in each of GW's remaining 31 contests, he would be tied for fourth all-time with 213. DiTomaso is also chasing the all-time hits leaderboard, needing just 16 more to crack the top five and 48 more to overtake the title.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson enters the week 4-19 overall after dropping three games to Monmouth over the weekend. Last week, GW traveled to Towson for a Wednesday matchup with the Revolutionaries leaving victorious by a final score of 7-4. That loss to GW is part of a seven-game losing streak that the Tigers are currently riding, with the team's last win coming on March 15 against Niagara. Towson is led by sixth-year skipper Matt Tyner who has a total record of 85-212 with the program.
Offensively, Towson is led by Elijah Dickerson who's batting .333 on the season with 30 hits. He is one of just two Tiger batters to hit .300 or above this year, with Cole Stefano sitting right at the .300 mark. Dickerson has 10 RBI and 10 doubles on the season, while also adding in a triple and eight walks. Dickerson holds a .467 slugging percentage and a team-high .388 on-base percentage as well. Bryce Fredrick leads the team in RBI with 18 this season, while Jordan Peyton is next best with 14 RBI. On the mound, the Tigers are led by Jordan Luton who holds a 2.70 ERA in seven appearances. He's pitched 10 innings this season, giving up three earned runs and striking out 10 batters. He holds opposing batters to a .216 average, giving up eight total hits in 2024. Along with Luton, Max Simpson has been a mainstay in the team's rotation, making six starts and holding a record of 2-3. He has a 7.18 ERA this season across a team-high 26.1 innings. Simpson also leads the team with 24 strikeouts.
