Baseball Slips at Old Dominion

Out of the gate, Old Dominion jumped on the scoreboard with two quick runs in the first inning. However, the Buff & Blue immediately answered with two runs of their own in the second inning off a two-RBI double from Brett Young. Scoring on the play was McGwire Tuffy and Robbie Lavey. The double was Young's first hit of the season and knotted the score at two apiece.
After the Monarchs tallied one run in the fourth, GW knotted the score once again off an RBI triple from Steve DiTomaso. Scoring on the play was Ellis Schwartz to even the game at 3-3. Old Dominion managed to plate four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-3 advantage, but GW wouldn't go away. The Revolutionaries scored a run of their own in the top of the seventh, and threatened for more, but were unable to push any more across the plate down the stretch.
Leading the way for GW was Young who finish 2-for-4 with two RBI. DiTomaso tallied a 1-for-4 line with an RBI, while Tim Nicholson and Schwartz both finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Robby Wacker tallied an RBI for the Buff & Blue. Graham Jeffries, a graduate transfer, made his first start on the mound for GW, tossing three innings and giving up three earned runs. Jeffries tallied three strikeouts and threw 74 total pitches. Cade Davis was charged with the loss for GW after tossing two innings in relief. Davis allowed two earned runs and struck out two batters in his first outing of the year. Benny Wilson saw action for the first time this season, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings and only allowing one hit. Wilson also struck out three batters.
