Baseball Hosts Georgetown in Non-Conference Finale Wednesday
5/9/2023 6:35:00 PM | Baseball
ARLINGTON, Va. - GW baseball will play its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park when Georgetown comes to battle in one of the oldest and most storied rivalries for George Washington. The game marks the first meeting this season between the foes after splitting a pair last season, with the Buff and Blue taking the meeting at Barcroft in 2022. GW leads the all-time series 97-45-1 and will look for the 98th win over the Hoyas at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
EDD17 MICHELETTI JR.: Eddie Micheletti Jr. brings a 17-game hitting streak into play on Wednesday. With seven games left and the conference tournament in sight, Micheletti is storming toward Dom D'Alessandro's program-record 28-game streak in 2019. The junior right fielder paces all A-10 hitters with 75 knocks on the year, six clear of the second-place batsman, while ranking second in batting average (.387), tied for fifth in doubles (16), and fifth in total bases (113).
A LOOK AT THE HOYAS: Georgetown plays UMES Tuesday night and will bring its 25-23 record (entering Tuesday) into play, with an 8-9 mark in Big East play. Ubaldo Lopez is the big stick for the Hoyas, with his 17 long balls, 48 RBI, 50 runs and a .351 batting average, all leading the team. Georgetown is coming off a 1-2 weekend at home vs. Butler.
WHAT'S NEXT: Following Wednesday's game, GW looks only at A-10 foes the rest of the way. Currently in 8th place in the Atlantic 10 standings, GDUB controls its own destiny in the postseason chase, with the top seven teams advancing to the playoffs. This weekend George Washington welcomes in George Mason, who sit just a game better at 9-8. After the three-game set with the Patriots, GW concludes regular season play at St. Bonaventure, May 18-20, against the 5-13 Bonnies.
