Logan Koester's eight strong innings gave him his team-leading fourth win of the season.
Baseball Evens A-10 Record with 9-2 Win Over VCU

ARLINGTON, Va. -- With three A-10 series down and five to play, George Washington baseball hit the weekend home series with VCU jammed in a pack in the middle of the standings. Six teams entered play Friday with either a 5-4 or 4-5 mark in the conference, including both combatants at The Tuck with the Buff and Blue (4-5) looking just a tick above them at the visiting Rams (5-4). Nine innings of play later, the teams find themselves both sitting at 5-5.
GW reached VCU's starter for five early runs, the loudest of which came off the bat of Michael Kohn who launched a two-run shot to right in the second. Kohn's blast brought in Noah Levin, extending the lead to 3-0 after Eddie Micheletti rapped an RBI groundout in the first that plated Steve DiTomaso. The home team tacked on two more runs in the second, with Sam Gates singling in Robby Wacker and Micheletti knocking in Gates.
GDUB struck again in the fourth, this time with DiTomaso chasing in Bryan Belo, who reached on a hit-by-pitch, then Micheletti did more damage, singling to right to score Gates again, as the lead swelled to 7-1.
Logan Koester was king of the hill in Friday's heater, pitching to contact and trusting his defense to author eight high-quality innings worked. He yielded eight hits, striking out one and walking four, and most importantly getting 13 ground ball outs. First-year Max Haug took the ball from Koester in the ninth to close it out after the former MLB draft pick tied up last year's A-10 Champions through his 122 pitches. The win was the junior righty's team-leading fourth of the season.
GW poured it on late with a sac fly from Levin in the eighth that scored Micheletti and a Gates double in the eighth with Alexander Wright scoring to account for the nine runs.
George Washington finished with 12 hits, continuing its assault at the plate after knocking around last weekend's Rams, the Fordham variety, too. Gates had three as did DiTomaso, while Micheletti and Kohn both had multiple knocks. Micheletti (3 RBI), and Gates along with Kohn batted in multiple runs.
Tomorrow's contest has been moved to 11:30 a.m., with inclement weather in the forecast. Teddy Brennan toes the rubber for GW live on ESPN3 with his club looking to win its second-straight A-10 series.
