Buff & Blue take on Bearcats for three-game series at Barcroft Park
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is set to host the Binghamton Bearcats this weekend at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. Friday's series opener is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch, followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon start on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday's games will be streamed on ESPN+.
OFFENSE FINDING ITS RHYTHM: GW scored double-digits runs in both of its two mid-week contests, plating 10 at Delaware and 11 vs. Towson. The Buff & Blue lead the A-10 in hits, paced by two of the top three in the league in Eddie Micheletti (2nd, 19) and Steve DiTomaso (3rd, 18). The Colonials enter the weekend hitting .275 as a team, fifth in the A-10.
TUCK DIGS THE LONG BALL: GW has found the friendly confines of Tucker Field to be especially cozy with home runs this season. The Buff & Blue are third in the A-10 with 16 homers with nine of them coming in just five games at the Tuck. Last season, GW hit 25 homers in 27 games on its home turf.
A LOOK AT THE BEARCATS: Binghamton, out of the America East, is 3-6 on the year although four of the losses have come to perennial ACC contenders Clemson and Wake Forest. The Bearcats took two-out-of-three from Norfolk State in their last weekend series.
Binghamton is second in the AE with a .282 team batting average and tops the circuit with a 6.30 ERA. Saturday's scheduled starter Gabe Driscoll holds a 0.54 ERA so far in three starts. Offensively, Tommy Reifler leads the team with a .429 batting average.
