Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader for First Series Sweep of the Season

The second contest featured junior pitcher Chris Kahler's 6.1 innings of two-run ball, striking out six in the process. Benny Wilson finished the seventh and Michael Foltz held the Jaspers down in the eighth, setting the stage for George Washington to make a walk-off winner out of Haug after he locked down Manhattan in the ninth. With the bases-loaded, senior Steve DiTomaso did exactly that, with a tough-to-handle infield single that scored Bryan Belo, who led off the ninth with a single into the right field corner.
The team effort included a pair of highlight-worthy moments from burgeoning sophomore star Sam Gates, who first got the scoring started with a solo dinger in the fifth and later robbed extra bases from the Jaspers with a sprawling catch in the right-center gap.
The walk-off provided a perfect capper to an afternoon that began with a prolific show from the Buff and Blue bats. A season-high 16 runs on 16 hits started the day right, with the GW lineup from top to bottom getting in on the fun to back Brennan.
Sunday's double dip wrapped GW's final non-conference weekend series before A-10 play begins next weekend. Before traveling to Dayton for a three-game set, the Barcroft Boys host James Madison on Tuesday at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
