Harrison Cohen strikes out 10 over 7.1 innings
ARLINGTON, Va. - George Washington baseball fell victim to a trio of Rhode Island long balls on Friday, falling in the series opener at Tucker Field, 4-1.
It didn't take long for the Rams' offense to launch its first home run of the game, as leadoff hitter Jack Cucinotta swatted a ball to deep left-center field to give the Rams a 1-0 lead in the first. One inning later, URI would add another run thanks to a solo shot by Anthony DePino.
In the bottom of the second, GW would get within a run. Derek Ripp lined a double to center, then came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Jon Bruno.
Despite their best efforts, the Colonials were unable to dent Rams' pitcher Sean Sposato any further. Sposato allowed just four hits over the final seven innings en route to his first complete game of the season.
Meanwhile, Harrison Cohen battled to keep GW in Friday's contest. The redshirt senior allowed just four hits across 7.1 innings and set 10 batters down on strikes. Unfortunately, Cohen was tagged for a two-run bomb in the 8th that ended his afternoon, and gave Rhode Island the insurance it needed to wrap up the 4-1 victory.
GW will look to split the series tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Rhode Island for game two at Tucker Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
