Colonials will host Georgetown on Tuesday, travel to UMES on Wednesday
WASHINGTON - Following a weekend road swing, George Washington baseball returns to the field for a pair of mid-week contests before beginning A-10 play this weekend. On Tuesday, GW will
welcome crosstown rival Georgetown to Tucker Field, before taking a quick trip to UMES on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
THE HITS KEEP COMING:
Despite three tough losses against ETSU over the weekend, GW's offense was able to rack up 30 hits against the Bucs. Cade Fergus had a particularly good weekend at the plate, going 7-for-14 with three extra base hits.
Entering this week, GW is third in the conference and 84th nationally, with 220 hits. Steve DiTomaso leads the team with 37 knocks this season, followed by Fergus' 25 hits.
STREAK STAYS ALIVE:
Keeping DiTomaso's offense in mind, the Colonials' junior extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games after picking up seven more hits over the weekend. DiTomaso is batting .447 with 11 RBIs and a .450 OBP during his recent hitting streak. DiTomaso's hit streak is tied for the longest in his career. His previous eight-game streak was set last season (Apr. 9-Apr. 25).
SCOUTING THE HOYAS:
GW will get its first look at its Washington D.C. rival on Tuesday afternoon. Georgetown enters Tuesday having gotten off to a strong 15-8 start to the season. The Hoyas success has come via the long ball, as the team ranks 19th in the NCAA in home runs (38). Individually, Jake Hyde is Georgetown's top offensive threat, leading the Hoyas in batting average (.439), hits (43), home runs (10), and OPS (1.357).
LAST TIME AGAINST UMES:
Wednesday's contest will be the second meeting between the Colonials and the Hawks this season. The two sides met just two weeks ago, when the Buff & Blue enjoyed a strong offensive performance, scoring 10 runs on 12 hits in a 10-3 victory. Seven different Colonials picked up a hit in the first game against the Hawks, including DiTomaso, who went 3-for-4.
