Colonials close non-conference play on Tuesday
WASHINGTON - GW baseball will finish off its home season at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming in Georgetown for a 4 p.m. first pitch on ESPN+.
OVER THE WEEKEND: GW pulled out its fourth series win in five A-10 weekends, winning in a variety of ways. The Colonials won in a walk-off on Friday, 6-5, powered their way to a 7-5 win in Saturday's first game and eked out a 3-1 pitcher's duel on Sunday. As a result, the Buff & Blue are now 14-6 in league play and in solid position to qualify for next week's conference tournament.
PULLING BACK TO REFLECT: Despite the shortened season, GW has a chance of reaching the 30-win mark for the fourth consecutive non-COVID year (2017, 2018, 2019). The Colonials are assured of their best winning percentage since at least 2014-15 and are one A-10 win shy of matching the most for the program in head coach Gregg Ritchie's nine seasons. The Buff & Blue own the third-best RPI in the league and are one of just five teams in the 13-team circuit to have played all 20 scheduled conference games thus far.
A PINCH OF SOLT: Justin Solt was crucial out of the bullpen in GW's series victory over Richmond, recording his first two saves of the season and first saves of any kind since his freshman season at Lower Columbia CC in 2018. Solt, who missed seven weeks due to an injury, retired all six batters he faced in 2.1 innings of work, stranding the tying runs on base with two outs in the seventh on Saturday and then getting a critical double play in the eighth inning on Sunday.
ABOUT THE HOYAS: Georgetown visits the Tuck for the second time this season after GW pulled out a 5-4 win on April 28 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Hoyas have fallen on hard times since, having dropped 13 of their last 14, including a five-game series loss at Xavier this weekend.
The Hoyas are 5-21 overall and own a team average of .186 and a team ERA of 5.32. GW is 95-44-1 all-time against the Hoyas following its win earlier this year.
