Buff & Blue close home slate at The Vern
GW softball is set to celebrate four graduate students and a senior this weekend when it hosts Revolutionary Rival George Mason for four games in its final series of the spring on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Buff and Blue will honor Sidney Bloomfield, Jenna Cone, Jessica Linquist, Amber Lotz and Faith Weber before Sunday's doubleheader in a ceremony that will be streamed via ESPN+ beginning at 11:45 a.m.
At 15-1 in A-10 play, GW aims to clinch the top spot in the Central Pod vs. the Patriots, who are 9-11 vs. conference foes.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW rolled to another series victory last weekend at Saint Louis, rebounding from an opening loss with three straight decisive wins.
Cone led the way, recording a .467/.529/1.267 slash line with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBIs over the four games. The graduate student from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., was tabbed Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week as well as A-10 Player of the Week for her efforts.
Maggie Greco earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors after recording hits in all three of the victories and playing superb defense in left field. Weber set the pace in the circle, going 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and nine strikeouts across 14 innings.
SENIOR CELEBRATION:Â This decorated group of Senior Day honorees has played a key role in the program's success, doing so much individually and collectively to help the Buff & Blue to Raise High on and off the field.

NATIONAL ATTENTION:Â Thanks to its all-around excellence this spring, GW ranks among the national leaders in a number of statistical categories.
The Colonials rank fourth in the country in scoring at 7.64 runs per game, and they're also near the top of the list in team batting average (.349, sixth), slugging percentage (.599, eighth) and home runs per game (1.58, 11th).
Also, GW sits at fifth in the nation in fielding percentage (.983), and the pitching staff's 2.00 ERA is good for 25th among NCAA D-I squads.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS: GW aims to complete a season sweep of George Mason after winning four games in dominant fashion in Fairfax, Va., back in late March.
The Patriots enter play Saturday at 14-12 and 9-11 in A-10 play. They've built their success on a pitching staff headlined by Bekah Ansbro (6-6, 2.22 ERA) and Haellie Gordon (7-4, 2.40 ERA). Rachel Warrens (.349, 11 extra-base hits) leads the Mason offense.
