Softball Routs Rhode Island For Series Win Sunday

GW softball jumped all over Rhode Island in Sunday afternoon's home finale, downing the Rams 9-1 in a six-inning, run-rule victory. The Revolutionaries improved to 21-19 overall with a 10-11 mark in conference, finishing the season a perfect 4-0 in home A-10 series with a 10-6 overall home record in conference play.

Cece Smith had an outstanding afternoon Sunday, as GW's starting pitcher was dealing on the mound and crushing at the plate. Smith took the Revolutionaries through 4.1 innings in her ninth win of 2026, and allowed only three hits with one unearned run. Offensively, she was 4-4 with a pair of doubles and a team-high five RBI, driving in more than half of GW's runs from the clean-up spot.

Isabella Ruby and Ashley Corpuz accompanied Smith with multi-hit days. Ruby finished 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored, while Corpuz was 2-3 with two walks, one RBI and one run scored.

GW wasted little time to build a comfortable lead, leading 4-0 after three innings. GW flirted with the run-rule in the fifth inning, leading 7-1 with two runners in scoring position, but Rhode Island managed to extend the game into the sixth. After keeping the Rams off the board in the top of the sixth, GW clinched the win with a pair of runs that enacted the eight-run rule.

GW reached double-digit hits for the seventh time this season, as the Revolutionaries' 14 knocks were the second-most of 2026 (season-high 15 hits vs. Wagner on 2/28).

The Revolutionaries now look to its final three games of the regular season, Friday (2:00 p.m. doubleheader) and Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at St. Bonaventure. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
