Buff & Blue took two from George Mason on Saturday
The Buff and Blue claimed a 4-3 win in the opener on Alessandra Ponce's walk-off RBI single before Sierra Lange provided all the offense necessary in a 2-0 victory with a two-run home run.
Terrific work in the circle from Lange and Faith Weber was also crucial. The veteran hurlers combined for 21 strikeouts across 14 innings on the day.
With the sweep, GW improved its home record to 13-1 and pushed its winning streak at The Vern to 11 games.
GW 4, George Mason 3:Â After the Patriots battled back with three runs in the top of the seventh to extend the game, the Buff and Blue moved quickly to end things.
Jenna Cone and Lange worked walks to open the bottom of the seventh before Ponce sent a single back up the middle that brought home Cone without a slide.

GW had built a 3-0 lead with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.Â
Sidney Bloomfield was the catalyst in her return to the lineup. The senior outfielder doubled to lead off the third before scoring on Lange's sacrifice fly, and then she made it 2-0 an inning later with an RBI triple to the wall in right.
Ponce added a sac fly an inning later that scored pinch runner Darbie Stancil to give the Colonials more breathing room before George Mason's final-inning rally.
Bloomfield finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Cone reached three times with a double and two walks.
Lange retired the first 11 batters that she faced and maintained her shutout into the final inning. The redshirt junior from Plano, Texas, ultimately ceded three runs on six hits with 10 Ks to equal a season high in her 14th win of the season.
GW 2, George Mason 0:Â The Buff and Blue came out on top in a pitchers' duel thanks to a gem from Weber and Lange's big swing.
GW had loaded the bases in the third and fourth innings without scoring before Lange sent one just inside the foul pole down the left field line in the fifth. Her career-high seventh home run of the season scored Stancil, who was pinch running after a leadoff single from Cone.
Lange also provided a defensive highlight that helped keep the shutout intact, catching a line drive in left and throwing home to nab a Mason runner attempting to score the game's first run in the fourth.
That threat proved to be the only trouble for Weber, who was dominant in a three-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts. Following Lange's outfield assist, she rolled through the Mason lineup 1-2-3 in each of the final three innings with six combined Ks.
Alexa Williams and Cone both reached twice in the second game with a hit and a walk.
Up Next:Â GW will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, honoring Bloomfield, Cone, Weber, Jessica Linquist and Amber Lotz before another doubleheader at The Vern. The pregame festivities begin at 11:45 a.m. and will be streamed via ESPN+.
