Colonials and Hawks play single-game Saturday, doubleheader Sunday
WASHINGTON - Winners of five straight, GW baseball will entertain Saint Joseph's at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park this weekend in a non-conference series. Saturday features a single game at 2 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon.
All three games will be nine innings and Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+. Fan attendance at Barcroft Park is prohibited this season as part of the waiver granted by the District of Columbia to GW to host Athletics events this year.
RECORD START: GW is 5-1 for the first time since 2008 and riding a five-game winning streak for the first time since 2019. The Buff & Blue last won six in a row twice during the 2018 season (March 31 - April 8 and March 17-28). The Colonials are tied for second in the league in wins, one behind VCU (6), who has played six more games.
THAT'S HIGH PRAISE: GW enters the week with the A-10's best batting average at .298, a mark that ranks 37th nationally. Individually, Noah Levin (.455) and Steve Barmakian (.400) rank sixth and 10th, respectively. The Buff & Blue pitching staff is also second in the circuit with 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings, ranking 28th in the nation.
ABOUT THE HAWKS: St. Joe's opened its season on Wednesday with a 12-3 victory over Towson thanks to five home runs, two of which came from Luca Trigiani. The Hawks, who went 5-10 in last year's abbreviated season, were projected to finish ninth in the A-10 preseason poll, a spot below the Colonials. The two teams last met in 2019 with SJU taking two of three. GW has a 32-20 all-time edge against the Hawks.

Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter.
