Colonials resume A-10 play with Duquesne on Saturday, face Carnegie Mellon Sunday
WASHINGTON -Â GW men's tennis is set to begin March with five consecutive road matches beginning with a pair of contests this weekend in the Steel City. The Colonials will square off against Duquesne in their second A-10 match of the season on Saturday at 4 p.m. before battling Carnegie Mellon on Sunday, also at 4 p.m.
Both matches will be played at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh in Harmar, Pa.
INSIDE THE A-10:Â GW is 1-0 in the conference this year, winning its opening match of the season against La Salle, 6-1. After Saturday's match, GW will have seven more non-conference matches before the brunt of A-10 play, which returns with a pair of home matches on March 23 and 24 at the GW Tennis Center.
SWITCHING THINGS UP:Â For the first time all season, GW mixed up the top of its singles lineup with first-year Ryan Navarro moving up to No. 1 and Zicheng Zeng sliding to No. 2 last week. Fluidity is to be expected with five of the Colonials' six student-athletes who have appeared in every match being first-years.Â
SCOUTING THE DUKES:Â Duquesne is 4-5 on the season and is coming off a pair of losses last weekend at Virginia Tech, 7-0, and Radford, 5-2. The Dukes have not played a conference match yet and are coming off a 4-3 league campaign that included a 4-3 setback to GW. Colonials' head coach Rob Castille is returning to Pittsburgh, where he was the head man for the Dukes from 2005-12.
SCOUTING THE TARTANS:Â Carnegie Mellon, out of Division III, is 4-3 on the year, including a win over Division I foe Mount. St. Mary's on Feb. 16, 8-1. The Tartans are currently ranked 10th in Division III and are coming off a visit to the NCAA Tournament Third Round last season.
