Colonials host Hawks Thursday night and Dragons Friday morning
WASHINGTON -Â GW men's tennis is set to welcome two teams at two locations in short order this week, starting with Monmouth on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va. The Colonials will then battle Drexel on Friday at 11:45 a.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
HOME SWEET HOME:Â GW is 2-0 so far on the young year when hosting matches, having defeated La Salle and Longwood at the SETLC. Following Friday's match, though, the Colonials will hit the road for five straight matches with a pair in Pittsburgh and three in Florida for Spring Break.
SHOWCASING DEPTH:Â Last time out, first-year Hanyu Liu provided GW's lone point, winning his match at #6 singles. That position has been the most productive for the Colonials this year, with Liu and junior Dennis Afanasev winning three of four matches. Afanasev and first-year Ryan Navarro have also posted a 3-1 record at #3 doubles.
ABOUT THE HAWKS:Â Monmouth is 3-1 on the season after picking up a pair of wins last weekend over George Mason and Delaware, sandwiched around a loss to Navy. The Hawks and Colonials have split their encounters the last two years with GW coming out on top, 7-0, in 2017 and Monmouth winning last year, 6-1.
ABOUT THE DRAGONS:Â Drexel enters play on Friday with a 5-4 mark, having won five consecutive matches since starting the season 0-4. The Dragons knocked off Villanova, 6-1, and NJIT, 5-2, in their most recent outings. Friday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
