Navarro, Zeng win multiple matches in singles draw
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Sophomores Ryan Navarro and Zicheng Zeng led the way for GW men's tennis at this weekend's ITA Atlantic Regional, winning multiple matches before bowing out in the round of 32.
Navarro won three matches to come out of the first round, defeating a ranked Holden Koons from James Madison in three sets in the round of 64. His journey came to a close Saturday with a hard-fought setback against the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Nicaise Muamba of Liberty.
Zeng earned a first round bye and advanced to the round of 32 after defeating a ranked foe himself, George Davis of William & Mary. Zeng teamed up with classmate Ben Barnett to secure the Colonials' lone win on the doubles side, reaching the round of 32.
Senior Jakub Behun won his singles contest in the round of 128 while five Colonials dropped their initial singles matches, but bounced back to win their consolation contest. A similar story followed on the doubles side where three Buff & Blue pairings fell in the round of 64, but earned a consolation victory.
GW now turns its attention to the final fall event of the year, traveling to the UNCW Team Invite from Nov. 1-3.
