SCHEDULE ALERT: Due to the forecast for Sunday, the weekend series has been altered. The teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
ARLINGTON, Va - The George Washington baseball team fell in the series opener against Richmond, 6-4, on Friday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Key Stats
- GW held a 4-0 lead into the top of the sixth inning but the Spiders rallied with five runs in the frame to take the lead.
- Richmond added a key insurance run in the top of the eighth inning.
- GW threatened with multiple runners on base in the sixth, seventh and ninth but was unable to erase the deficit.
- Senior Isaiah Pasteur extended his hit streak to 21 games, the second longest streak in GW history. He finished 1-for-3 at the plate with two walks.
- Sophomore Steven Barmakian went 2-for-5 on the day with two RBI. He was joined with multiple hits from seniors Robbie Metz and Brandon Chapman.
- Junior Jaret Edwards pitched well in a no decision. He allowed one run over 5.1 innings while scattering six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Scoring - Bottom 1: Three consecutive one-out hits resulted in a 1-0 lead for the Colonials after Mark Osis cashed in on a RBI single. The next batter was Nate Fassnacht, who lifted a sacrifice fly to left field (GW 2, Richmond 0).
- Bottom 5: GW loaded the bases with no outs and Barmakian cashed in with a two-run single (GW 4, Richmond 0).
- Top 6: Three doubles were responsible for two runs coming across. A bases-loaded hit batter plated a third a run. After a pitching change, a two-run double plated two more (Richmond 5, GW 4).
- Top 8: A leadoff base hit scored on a RBI double for a key insurance run (Richmond 6, GW 4).
