ARLINGTON, Va. - The George Washington baseball team produced a double-digit hit total for the third time this homestand in Wednesday's 12-6 win over Delaware State at Tucker Field.
The win lifts GW's overall record this season to 7-6 and also completes the seven-game homestand with a 6-1 record.
Key Stats
- Every player in GW's starting lineup reached base during the game, with eight players registering hits.
- Senior Robbie Metz drove in a single-game career-high total of four RBI. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run home run and a pair of runs.
- Sophomore Steven Barmakian and junior Dominic D'Alessandro both registered three-hit days. Barmakian went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and one RBI, while D'Alessandro went 3-for-4 with a key two-run single late in the game.
- Senior Isaiah Pasteur tripled, walked twice and drove in two runs from the leadoff spot.
- Seniors Mark Osis (2H, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Brandon Chapman (2H, 1 R) also turned in multi-hit games.
- Senior Tyler Swiggart picked up his second win of the season after pitching three frames of relief. He allowed a pair of runs on five hits with no walks and one strikeout.
- Senior Kevin Hodgson got the start for the Colonials. He went four innings and allowed three runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
- Freshman Harrison Cohen closed out the game with two innings of work. He allowed an unearned run on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
Scoring
- Bottom 1: Pasteur led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice and then scored from second on a RBI groundout by Metz (GW 1, DSU 0).
- Bottom 3: Barmakian hit a one-out double and then scored on a RBI single by Metz. (GW 2, DSU 0
- Bottom 3: Osis smoked a RBI double to the gap in left center field, allowing Metz to score standing up from first (GW 3, DSU 0).
- Top 4: The Hornets loaded the bases with one out and scored on a fielder's choice RBI. (GW 3, DSU 1)
- Bottom 4: Chapman hit a one-out single and moved to third on a perfect hit-and-run by freshman Colin Brophy. They both came home to score on a two-run triple to left center by Pasteur (GW 5, DSU 1).
- Bottom 4: After a pitching change, Barmakian singled to center to score Pasteur. (GW 6, DSU 1).
- Bottom 4: Metz rocked a 3-0 pitch over the wall in left field for a two-run home run, his first of the season (GW 8, DSU 1).
- Top 5: DSU loaded the bases with no outs to open the inning. After a pitching change, a run came in to score on a double play. (GW 8, DSU 2).
- Top 5: The next batter for DSU poked a RBI single to right field (GW 8, DSU 3).
- Bottom 5: After three straight singles to open the inning by senior Matt Cosentino, D'Alessandro and Chapman, Brophy lifted a sacrifice fly to right field (GW 9, DSU 3).
- Top 7: The Hornets plated a pair of runs on a two-run home run (GW 9, DSU 5).
- Bottom 8: Cosentino drew a bases-loaded walk to add an insurance run (GW 10, DSU 5).
- Bottom 8: With the bases still loaded, D'Alessandro followed with a two-run single to push the lead to six. (GW 12, DSU 6).
