Baseball Routs Towson to Win Sixth Straight

ARLINGTON, Va. - The George Washington baseball team routed visiting Towson, 13-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park for its sixth consecutive win.
Key Stats
- GW tallied double-digit hits for the second straight game and 12th time this season by finishing with 15 knocks.
- Eight of GW's nine starters tallied a hit while senior Matt Cosentino had a productive day at the plate, sans a hit, with three walks, one run and one RBI.
- The Colonials also walked a season-high 10 times on the day. In addition to Cosentino's trio of free passes, senior Mark Osis and sophomore Nate Fassnacht also drew multiple walks.
- The Colonials stole a season-best seven bases on the day with two each from Isaiah Pasteur, Robbie Metz and Cosentino.
- Metz had a big day at the dish, going 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI.
- Senior Brandon Chapman went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
- Four pitchers combined to limit Towson to just two runs on six hits. Senior Kevin Hodgson earned the win with four innings of two-run ball. He walked one and struck out three.
- Senior Tyler Swiggart (3 IP, 2 H, 2 K), sophomore Andrew Wheeler (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) and freshman Jacob Meyer (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) combined to blank the Tigers over the final five innings.
Scoring - Top 1: Towson got the leadoff man on base via a walk and he later scored on a groundout (Towson 1, GW 0).
- Bottom 1: Pasteur led off with a walk, stole both second and third base and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game (GW 1, Towson 1).
- Bottom 1: Osis reached first on an error and then scored on an RBI double to the gap in left-center by Fassnacht (GW 2, Towson 1).
- Bottom 3: GW loaded the bases to start the inning and Cosentino drew a four-pitch walk to bring in a run (GW 3, Towson 1).
- Top 4: A two-out RBI single drove in a run for the Tigers (GW 3, Towson 2).
- Bottom 4: The Colonials batted around to score six runs on seven hits, while also taking advantage of three errors, to blow the game open. Steven Barmakian, Metz, Osis, Fassnacht, Dominic D'Alessandro and Chapman all drove in a run in the onslaught (GW 9, Towson 2).
- Bottom 7: GW batted around for the second time in the game and scored four runs on three hits and an error in the seventh. Metz's infield RBI single plated the first run ahead of a bases-loaded walk by D'Alessandro. Later in the inning an infield RBI single by Chapman drove in another run. Freshman Colin Brophy capped the scoring with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch RBI (GW 13, Towson 2).
Up Next - GW resumes its Atlantic 10 schedule when it visits Dayton for a three-game set this weekend at Woerner Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the opener on Friday.
