NORCROSS, Ga. - The George Washington men's tennis team notched a 5-2 victory over Georgia State on Saturday at the Panthers' Lifetime Fitness indoor facility.
The Colonials (3-6) grabbed the early doubles point over the Panthers (3-6) with wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions of junior Danil Zelenkov and senior Francisco Dias and the duo of junior Cahit Kapukiran and freshman Christos Hadjigeorgiou, respectively.
In singles action, Hadjigeorgiou put GW up by two with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 6 slot. Georgia State then evened the score with victories in first- and fourth-flight matches. Freshman Chris Reynolds put the Buff and Blue back on top with a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 triumph in the No. 5 slot before Dias clinched the match in second-tier action with a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2 battle.
With Sunday's regularly scheduled match against Stetson canceled due to inclement weather, the Colonials will next return to the court when they host DePaul on Feb. 28 at the Southeast Tennis Center for a 5 p.m. bout.
